Thursday — A Better Future

When you imagine the future, what does it look like? Is it better than today? Is the air cleaner? Is the soil protected? Are animal habitats plentiful and sustainable? Are your energy needs and dependence on foreign oil reduced?

You can start working toward a better future with one small step: PLANT A TREE. It can’t solve all the world’s problems, but it can help with all of the above! April 25th is ARBOR DAY. You can get a tree this week at many local vendors, or visit the Arbor Day Website.

And, as always, let us know how things are going!

Wednesday — Work and the Environment?

What is your business doing to help lower fuel costs, recycle, and/or be “Greener”? We’d love to hear from you!

Tuesday — Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! Today, I would like to emphasize a change that is SO easy, but can make a huge difference: stop using plastic bags. Each year Americans use 100 billion plastic bags, and only .6% are recycled (Worldwatch). Local grocery stores, as well as Wal-Mart and Target, now offer reusable bags for purchase. When you buy and re-use these bags, instead of plastic (or even paper), you are helping to reduce landfill waste and keep our land free from trash. TRY MAKING A PLASTIC WASTE-FREE LUNCH for yourself or your child today!

If you are looking for more ways to be a good steward of the earth, check out the new Time Magazine. It is full of suggestions!

And, as always, let us know how you are doing by clicking on the comments button!

Monday — Welcome to Earth Week!

Good day!  We hope you will try something from the brochure today, or offer your own comments on things you’ve tried.  Do you have home cleaner recipies that are safe for the environment?  Do you know of a carpooling group?  Do you have a suggestion for decreasing paper consumption at work?  Let us know your ideas, and how you are doing this week!

Small Changes…Big Difference!

As we prepare for Earth Week 2008, we have posted a JPEG version of our brochure! (Click on the image to bring up a full sized copy!) It is full of suggestions for activities to try, and is also available on the St. Paul’s church website: www.cherokeespumc.org.

We hope that you will let us know how you are doing! What did you try? How did it go? What other “small steps” can people take to care for the creation? WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Just click on “Comments.”It\'s in your hands! Suggestions for Earth Week 2008

Earth Week is Coming!

APRIL 20th – 26th this website will post comments from members of the Cherokee (IA) community as they do simple things to protect the creation. YOU CAN BE A PART OF IT!!! Check back for updates, suggestions for the week, and to see how others are doing.

Together, we can make a difference in the community!!!
